  3. On September 25, 1944, Hitler ordered 
  4. the formation of a Volkssturm, a "Home 
  5. Guard" to be run by the head of the SS - 
  6. Heinrich Himmler.  Herman Goering saw 
  7. this as an opportunity to form a similar 
  8. group within the Luftwaffe.  He arranged 
  9. for an entire year's intake of Hitler youth 
  10. to immediately begin training on gliders in 
  11. preparation for flying the Volksjager in 
  12. combat.  For Goering, previously a fighter 
  13. pilot himself, to have seriously believed 
  14. that boys with simple glider pilot skills 
  15. could successfully fly any warplane, let 
  16. alone the small and unstable He 162, was 
  17. indicative of the unrealistic views held by 
  18. many of the Reich's top leaders during 
  19. that time.

  21.                     YOUR MISSION

  23. Lead your flight of four Volksjagers up 
  24. from Doberitz Luftwaffe airfield to 
  25. intercept an incoming Allied raid.  Single-
  26. engine fighter-bombers have been 
  27. sighted heading toward the Johannisthal 
  28. area, where a vital aircraft factory is 
  29. located.  Follow the waypoints marked 
  30. on your map to make an effective 
  31. interception.

  33. Your hand-picked wingmen are the best 
  34. around, but you know that you'll probably 
  35. be outnumbered three to one.  Try to 
  36. break up the formations of the enemy 
  37. fighter-bombers and then destroy each 
  38. one as quickly as possible.
